Join us for an evening event at the Foundation, held every first Wednesday of the month from 6 to 9 PM. This time, let yourself be carried away by a selection of reggae/dub records curated by Pozi, played from 6 to 8 PM through Antoine Leroy’s B.BB.BBB sound system. The night will continue with a captivating performance by Mathieu Lilin. This musical evening is curated by Stevie Qngo.
6 – 9 PM
Pozi: 6 – 8 PM
Mathieu Lilin: 8 – 9 PM
Pozi is a Brussels-based record collector and member of the Luv Gang deeply immersed in the underground music scene. Known for his eclectic selections, he seamlessly blends genres, creating unique sonic journeys. A regular resident à Kiosk Radio, Pozi’s set are characterised by passion for rare vinyls, unconventional rythms, and deep grooves. His mixes invite listeners to explore a rich soundscape that spans from old school gems to contemporary electronic beats, always with a focus on authenticity and musical explorations.
Mathieu Lilin is a baritone saxophone improviser. His work is based on an open floating attention in order to dissociate each element from the practice of instrumental playing. The intention is to create a space between breath, sound, hands and vibration, fingers and notes. His music is nourished by encounters with musicians such as Seijiro Murayama and Jean-Luc Guionnet, whose vision of improvisation and listening to silence have inspired his work, as well as by collaborations with performers Aï Suzuki and Gabrielle Weissen, whose relationship with listening to the body and space have inspired his work. He is currently working with Maxence Obein, Jean François Lejeune and the Skew collective. He had previously been a member of the group Fundament created by Peter Jacquemyn.
B.BB.BBB is unpronounceable. It is the bass—the invisible foundation upon which everything rests. At the bottom of the spectrum, yet at the top of the mix. It was conceived by Aidons Antoine founder of the label Le Pacifique Records, and made possible through the technical expertise of Maxime.P from Penrose Audio. Originally designed in three bands for the performance Voie Vois Voix, co-created with Gaël Santisteva and Saaber Bachir, B.BB.BBB came to life with the arrival of two horn-loaded subwoofers.
Stevie Qngo, visual and sound artist, is mediator at A Foundation since 2023. He is studying art and research at ERG and ULB, where his work is articulated through series of infra-happenings and radio documentaries that question the submissive and subversive powers of the public and domestic spaces we use. For this first nocturne during What's the word? Johannesburg, Stevie Qngo believes in the revolutionary potential of music, and its infinitely vibrating scream performed by Pozi and Mathieu Lilin amplified by Aidons Antoine's B.BB.BBB soundsystem. Sparking a tight, gentle dialogue between photography, music and resistance.
