FRENCH PHOTOGRAPHER THOMAS BOIVIN CAPTURES DAILY S FRENCH PHOTOGRAPHER THOMAS BOIVIN CAPTURES DAILY SCENES OF LIFE IN PARIS NEIGHBORHOOD BELLEVILLE.

Belleville — Thomas Boivin
Until June 26, 2022
From Wednesday to Sunday (1pm-6pm)

Since 2010 Thomas Boivin has been making beautiful, contemplative black and white photographs of his Parisian neighbourhood and the people who live there.

Belleville is a place that is both emblematic of the popular notions of Paris and constantly changing. Set in the eastern part of Paris, it is a multicultural area of the city that attracts artists and those new to France.

“I started to photograph its streets and people as soon as I moved there, and kept photographing for years. Photographing people, above all, was what I found meaningful. Although the photographs hardly depict the city, I find they convey the sensation that I had, walking the streets of Belleville: A mixture of beauty and decay, of joyful moments and sadness, the warm feeling of light and the bitter sweet sensation that one can experience walking around all day, searching for a stranger's eyes..” - Thomas Boivin

Belleville is an exhibition co-produced by the Maison de la Photographie Robert Doisneau (un équipement de l’Établissement Grand-Orly Seine Bièvre) and A Foundation, curated by Tristan Lund.

SPOTTED … ASTRID ULLENS DE SCHOOTEN WHETTNALL AT SPOTTED … ASTRID ULLENS DE SCHOOTEN WHETTNALL AT THE « GRACIELA ITURBIDE, HELIOTROPO 37 » EXHIBITION, FONDATION CARTIER — PARIS.

Carnaval, Tlaxcala, Mexico - Graciela Iturbide, 1974

In the collection of Astrid Ullens de Schooten Whettnall

Graciela Iturbide is a major figure of Latin American photography. For over fifty years, she has created images that oscillate between a documentary approach and a poetic gaze: “I have looked for the surprise in the ordinary, an ordinary that I could find anywhere in the world.” While today she is famous for her portraits of the Seri people in the Sonora Desert and the women of Juchitán, as well as for her photographic work around Mexico’s ancestral communities and traditions, Iturbide also brings a quasi spiritual attention to landscapes and objects. The work of Graciela Iturbide will be soon showing at the A foundation, stay tuned.
